In the year 2000!

art by Leinil Yu.

In 1998, Grant Morrison, Mark Millar, Mark Waid and Tom Peyer pitched a revamp of Superman. Their proposal (entitled "Superman 2000") was turned down by DC editorial who swore those writers will never be allowed to work on the character.

Years later, those ideas are worked into All Star Superman, Superman: Birthright, 52 and...Spider-man?! Read an analysis of the Superman 2000 pitch here.

Finally!!!

DC comics is finally doing something significant with the Milestone characters whose return was announced more than a year ago. The original artists, including John Paul Leon and Milestone Founder Denys Cowan, will be joining writer Dwayne McDuffie to tell "a bittersweet tale that chronicles the literal end of a universe, and the birth of something new, with major consequences for the future of the DC Universe." Read more here.

What took so long? Read 4thletter! blogger David Brother's thoughts about DC's mismanagement of the Milestone properties here.

The work of Guillaume Singelin was highlighted recently, too.

More Morrison inspiration?

The above panel has been cited by Grant Morrison as an inspiration for his take on the current Batman-
"I can certainly see the Dick Grayson Batman digging this day on a more regular basis!"
Perhaps, the Dick Grayson Batman and Damian Wayne Robin were inspired by this:

Also, I think Bruce needs to look up the definition of the word "ironic."

Batman and Robin #3 hits comic stores today.
