A web search for the work of Phil Hale turned up the website for his rep ASFA - which in turn, was found to be powerhouse collective of extremely talented artists!

Some of the artists represented by ASFA include Jeffrey Jones, Dave McKean, Scott Morse, George Pratt, Kent Williams...

Leopoldo "Leo" Duranoña

A few summers ago, I came across a book called Race of Scorpions on an NYC street dealer's table. After a quick inspection of the interior art, I immediately added it to my stack.

Race of Scorpions was a great find! Leo Duranoña's artwork is pretty darn good, reminiscent of classic book illustration and stylistically somewhere between Joe Kubert and Moebius.

I have tried to locate biographical information on Duranoña but there doesn't seem to be much out there on the internet right now...

Leo Duranoña (born 1938) is an Argentine artist who has worked for such diverse US companies as Warren, Marvel and Dark Horse. For Warren, he produced several horror stories for Eerie and Vampirella, in which he showcased a very experimental style. In recent days, Leo Duranoña is best known for his work as a storyboard artist. He works for such companies as Hanna Barbara, Disney and Universal. He returned to comics when he began the 'Race of Scorpions' and 'Indiana Jones and the Iron Phoenix' series at Dark Horse.

Jordie just sent this article to me about the use of music in the Peanuts comic strip. Charles Schulz actually preferred the music of Brahms but chose Beethoven as Schroeder's hero because the name looked and sounded funnier!
