As far as unsanctioned "Calvin and Hobbes"-inspired pieces go, this cartoon by Donato Di Carlo beats the rest any day of the week.

Kyle Baker's Dick Tracy

Book one of Kyle Baker's 1990 Dick Tracy miniseries was one of the first comics I ever bought. The third issue was pretty much a straight adaptation of the movie with the first two issues acting as a prequel. Baker's line is so clean and loose but at the same time he's still able to capture the sharp unique look of the characters as designed by Chester Gould (with the exception of Dick Tracy himself who had to look like Warren Beatty).
